CHICAGO — The Phoenix Mercury’s coverage of WNBA All-Star Weekend took a playful turn Friday, with Atlanta Dream standout Angel Reese involved in some lighthearted banter over a photo she had taken.

The interaction came after the Mercury’s social media account shared a photo of Kahleah Copper posing alongside former President Barack Obama. The image, originally captured by Reese, was used to celebrate the moment and Phoenix’s lone All-Star representative during the league’s showcase weekend.
Reese quickly noticed and responded with a playful message, jokingly asking the Mercury’s social media admin to give her credit for capturing the moment.

The friendly back-and-forth drew attention from WNBA fans, with many enjoying the interaction between one of the league’s rising stars and one of its most historic franchises.

Beyond the social media moment, the exchange also highlighted the close relationship between Reese and Copper. The two have supported each other throughout their respective careers. Reese has often leaned on veteran players like Copper as mentors, while the Phoenix All-Star has embraced that role.
Even when Reese comes to the Valley to face the Mercury, she has received plenty of support from Phoenix fans despite not playing for the team. Reese has spoken highly of the Mercury fan base in the past, often saying she enjoys playing in Phoenix because of the positive energy and knowledgeable basketball fans.

While it was simply a fun online interaction, it added another chapter to the connection between Reese and the Valley, showing that even without wearing a Mercury uniform, Reese has built a bond with Phoenix’s players and its fan base.
