GLENDALE – After losing another running back in Emari Demercado, the Arizona Cardinals finally receive some good news with a returning star halfback. The team announced on Wednesday that they have opened the practice window for Trey Benson, who last played in Week 4 vs. the Seattle Seahawks on Thursday Night Football. Benson had a knee injury that required arthroscopic surgery, forcing the franchise to place him on injury reserve.

Benson returns to practice:
The Cardinals lost their two-time Pro Bowl running James Conner in Week 3 due to a season-ending right foot injury. Benson was the obvious choice to replace Conner, but that dream would only last one week. During the preseason, the duo called themselves a pair of RB1s, and in the first month of the season they were both gone.
While Conner is expected to have a long rehab process, Benson’s timeline was kept in the dark. The 23-year-old was eligible to return since Week 9, but head Jonathan Gannon kept Benson’s status close to the chest.

Regardless, Benson is back on the practice field, which doesn’t confirm he’ll be back for Sunday’s Week 12 game vs. the Jacksonville Jaguars. However, with Arizona currently only having Bam Knight and Michael Carter as the only healthy running backs on the roster, Benson’s activation could be a sign of him being ready to go.
