According to ESPN’s Shams Charania, the Suns will exercise Ighodaro’s $2.5 million team option for the 2027-28 season, meaning the extension begins in 2028-29. The deal reflects the growing investment in a second-round draft pick who has become a dependable rotation player while giving Phoenix financial flexibility for the upcoming season.
Ighodaro, selected 40th overall in the 2024 NBA draft, made significant strides in his second season last year. He appeared in all 82 games in 2025-26, starting 24, and averaged 6.5 points, 5.1 rebounds and 2.3 assists in 22 minutes per game. He shot 65.3% from the field, showcasing his efficiency around the basket.

The center’s durability and versatility add to his value beyond the statistics, with his ability to facilitate the offense, move effectively in pick-and-roll situations and defend multiple positions.
The extension also provides continuity at a position where availability has been a concern, particularly after Mark Williams suffered a summer injury that is expected to sideline him for several months. Ighodaro’s expanded role last season and his continued improvement have given the Suns reason to believe he can remain part of the franchise’s present and future.

For a second-rounder, Ighodaro has turned steady improvement into financial security — and an opportunity to become a fixture in Phoenix’s frontcourt.
