Jeremiyah Love won’t suit up for Cardinals in Hall of Fame game

Head coach Mike LaFleur confirmed during Wednesday’s practice that the rookie will not play in Thursday’s Hall of Fame Game against the Carolina Panthers, according to reporter Darren Urban. LaFleur did not indicate the decision was injury-related, suggesting Love will instead continue preparing for future preseason action.

Love, the No. 3 overall pick in this year’s NFL draft out of Notre Dame, has been one of the Cardinals’ most closely watched newcomers since training camp opened. After arriving with a reputation as an explosive runner capable of creating big plays in both the running and passing game, Thursday’s exhibition was expected to provide fans with their first look at how his skill set translates to NFL competition.

Instead, Arizona is expected to lean more heavily on the rest of its running back room, giving other players additional opportunities to compete for roster spots and roles in the offense.

Love’s status for Arizona’s remaining preseason games will be worth monitoring as the Cardinals continue evaluating their roster before Week 1.
