The former No. 1 prospect in the organization launched his first homer in the bottom of the third inning against Atlanta Braves right-hander Reynaldo Lopez. On the first pitch — a 93.6 mph fastball — Lawlar sent the ball to left-center field for a 424-foot home run.
While it was the first of his career, it reflects Lawlar’s ongoing development and growth.

The last few seasons have been tumultuous for the 23-year-old. Splitting time between the big leagues and the minors, and sustaining several injuries that kept him on the shelf for extended periods, Lawlar has struggled to find his footing. He was called up in the latter half of 2025 after the Diamondbacks traded away pieces at the trade deadline, but he continued to struggle at the plate, and his defense at third base was inconsistent.

During the offseason, Lawlar spent time in the Dominican Winter League to continue getting reps and to work on his defensive skills in the outfield. Since making the Opening Day roster, he has contributed on both sides of the ball.
Lawlar has had at least one hit in five of the last six games he’s played, including a standout defensive play against the Los Angeles Dodgers, when he took away a potential double from Freddie Freeman during the first series of the year at Dodger Stadium.

Although the sample size is small, it reflects the improvement Lawlar has made compared to where he was at the end of last season.
If he can stay consistent, Lawlar could become a key player for Arizona as the Diamondbacks aim for a run in the National League West.
