The initial eight name list had seven coordinators and one former head coach from last season, and this new name fits into the pattern.

Schefter on Cardinals adding new name to interview:

LaFleur has coached in the NFL since 2014, starting as an offensive intern with the Cleveland Browns. The next decade would see him go to five franchises, getting his first opportunity to be the offensive coordinator with the New York Jets in 2021. He was let go alongside then Jets head coach Robert Saleh and was quickly brought in by Rams head coach Sean McVay.

Los Angeles last two offensive coordinators went on to become NFL head coaches in Kevin O’Connell and Liam Coen, meaning LaFleur had some tough acts to follow. In 2023, the 38-year-old turned the 27th scoring offense to the 8th in his first season at the position. He has maintain that prowess entering this season, leading the Rams to the best scoring in the NFL, while having the most yards per game.

Having MVP front runner Matthew Stafford and Puka Nacua at your disposal does help, but LeFleur has lived up to his part of the bargain. Los Angeles is in eyeing its second Super Bowl in five years, but LeFleur will be interviewing with Arizona this week.

Cardinals likely out of the John Harbaugh sweepstakes due to steep demands
