Entering the night, NBA teams trailing by eight points in the final minute of regulation were 0-3060. The Suns were down 113-105 and strung together a series of defensive stops and forced turnovers to stun the Timberwolves.
Royce O’Neale and Jordan Goodwin hit critical shots to pull the Suns within one before guard Collin Gillespie drained the game-winner, sealing a 114-113 victory over Minnesota and moving Phoenix to 2-0 in the Emirates NBA Cup.
With four other teams also trailing by more than eight in the final minute on Friday, the Suns pushed the record to 1-3065, the first win of its kind since Jan. 26, 2022.

The Suns have emerged as a force this season, defying preseason predictions despite being short-handed. Over their last eight games, they have lost only once.
It’s not just Suns fans keeping an eye on this team, as NBA fans across the league are starting to tune in. On X, the NBA posted Gillespie’s go-ahead shot and the clip drew more than 1.6 million views (and counting) in 12 hours.

In an offseason of rebuild and tying together loose pieces, the Suns are playing like a group that has been together for years. Whether it’s Devin Booker, Dillon Brooks or Gillespie, everyone is playing for each other and that chemistry may carry them to greater heights this season.
