The Valley Suns expected fireworks on opening night, but what lit up the arena before Rasheer Fleming and Khaman Maluach ever got it going was the sight of their Phoenix Suns teammates, including Dillon Brooks, Ryan Dunn, Mark Williams, Collin Gillespie, and Oso Ighodoro sitting courtside in full support mode. It wasn’t for a ceremony, a promotion, or a photo-op. It was for Khaman Maluach and Rasheer Fleming. That’s the kind of detail that reveals where a franchise is really headed.

Fleming spoke on their appearance as well, “I’m just glad I had all my guys here to watch. It was great.” (Credit: Valley Suns Twitter) This wasn’t performative camaraderie; it was intentional culture-setting. Brooks, the league’s most unapologetic tone-setter, wants to be the veteran leader by, of course, showing the rookies he is bought in. Ryan Dunn and Osio Ighodoro, two defensive specialists who understand the grind of carving out an identity, were more than excited to show their support. Mark Williams and Collin Gillespie are also helping represent the Suns’ growing emphasis on reliability, in more ways than one.
