Allen sustained the injury in the second quarter, bumping knees with Pacers’ Jay Huff near the baseline during a pass. He was ruled out for the rest of the game with a right quad contusion, according to AZCentral’s Duane Rankin.

The injury only adds to the Suns’ list of unfortunate setbacks this year, as Allen had been on a tear with career performances in recent games. His injury mirrors that of teammate Jalen Green, who is sidelined four to six weeks with a hamstring strain after a stellar Phoenix debut in his first game of the season.

Despite the injuries around him, Allen had stepped up in major ways. He has been a threat beyond the arc and has carried much of the team’s defensive versatility.

So far this season, Allen is averaging 18.6 points, 3.1 rebounds and 4.6 assists.

Without knowing how long Allen will be sidelined, it’s another blow to the starting rotation, taking away a critical piece who was gaining momentum. While injuries are not unfamiliar to the Suns, losing two key players who were beginning to make their mark this season is a setback.

However, Phoenix has managed to pile up wins and put its rebuild to the test despite key players being out.

If Allen is out for an extended period, it will be another test of Phoenix’s adaptability.
