Perdomo’s home run came in the top of the fifth inning against San Diego Padres left-handed pitcher Yuki Matsui. The homer would be the D-Backs’ only run in their 5-1 loss.
The Diamondbacks shortstop has had an MVP-caliber season, setting season highs in home runs, RBIs, runs, extra base hits, stolen bases, OPS and batting average. In 160 games, Perdomo has a .291 batting average, 20 home runs, 99 RBIs, 27 stolen bases and an .855 OPS.

Perdomo is also second in the National League in offensive wins above replacement, 6.9, just below Los Angeles Dodgers designated hitter Shohei Ohtani, who has a 7.2 WAR.
The surge for the D-Backs shortstop hasn’t gone unnoticed by the league, ranking fourth in MLB’s NL MVP poll on Sept. 23. While Perdomo has been known for his defensive IQ throughout his young career, this year has showcased his potential offensively and how much he can provide for the team throughout a grueling season.

While he might not run away with the MVP award, Perdomo’s first 20-20 season is the culmination of a breakout season and the catalyst for the team when they needed one.
