Coming off a series win against the Philadelphia Phillies this past weekend, the D-Backs have still set themselves up where they still have a shot. Although it’s going to be very tough for the D-Backs to get one of the final wildcard playoff spots, the path is there.

Of course, Arizona would have to go through its two division rivals, the Los Angeles Dodgers and San Diego Padres, to do so. The New York Mets end their season going up against the likes of the Chicago Cubs and Miami Marlins, while the Cincinnati Reds deal with the Pittsburgh Pirates and Milwaukee Brewers.

If the D-Backs end up tying the Reds, Cincinnati would get the tiebreaker with the season series being 4-2 in favor of the Reds. If Arizona ties with the Mets, however, they would move on based on their intradivision record. The D-Backs do need a little bit of help to avoid a tie, but the opportunity is right there for the taking for Arizona. After missing the previous season by losing on a three-way tiebreaker to finish the season, coming this close to the playoffs again to miss it in back-to-back seasons after a World Series appearance would surely be a gut punch.
