Locklear was placed on the 10-day injured list Sept. 8 after a collision with the Boston Red Sox’s Connor Wong while attempting to catch a wild throw from Diamondbacks third baseman Jordan Lawlar during a game on Sept. 7. The initial report was that Locklear had left elbow inflammation.
However, the injury appears to be enough to sideline him for the rest of the season.

According to the Diamondbacks’ broadcast team, Locklear will go through further evaluation, but surgery is a possibility.
Locklear adds to the list of injuries the Snakes have dealt with this season, as fellow first baseman Pavin Smith is also out for the year with a strained left quad. Ildemaro Vargas has been handling first base duties against the San Francisco Giants and infielder Tim Tawa was recalled by the Diamondbacks for additional support.
Locklear was traded to Arizona, along with two pitching prospects, in a deal that sent third baseman Eugenio Suárez to the Seattle Mariners at the trade deadline this year. With the D-Backs this year, Locklear hit .175 with a .529 OPS and three home runs.

The injury comes at the worst time for the Diamondbacks, who were hoping for a late-season surge to slip into the playoffs next month. With mounting injuries and the team struggling to pick up crucial wins, that surge might not be enough.
