The win against the Connecticut Sun on Aug. 5 showed the Mercury moving past their tough road trip. Sabally had one of her best games since returning from injury, Copper continued to produce in key moments and Thomas fueled her MVP campaign with her second triple-double in back-to-back games.

Will the big three be able to continue to lead Phoenix to more wins during this stretch?

Throughout the season, the big three haven’t had much playing time together due to injuries and other circumstances. Despite this, the Mercury have been one of the top five teams in the WNBA. Having Sabally, Copper and Thomas back together in a win like Tuesday’s may completely change the team’s future.

Sabally is a scoring machine, averaging 17.5 points per game, scoring 23 points in her last game. Copper is efficient from beyond the arc, shooting 45.5% this year. Thomas is one of the best playmakers in the league, averaging 9.1 assists and 8.6 rebounds per game.

The three cover both sides of the ball well and help complement their Phoenix teammates. With the amount of talent on the roster, head coach Nate Tibbetts said that the team looks closer to playing better basketball.

“Part of the challenge for me is just to find the right rotations,” he said after Tuesday’s win, according to the team’s post-presser. “Who plays well with one another… we are getting closer to, you know. You know, finding that groove.”

If Sabally, Copper and Thomas can continue to play as they have the past few games, the Mercury will be in a good position for the rest of the season.
