PHOENIX – Phoenix Suns franchise cornerstone guard Devin Booker is remaining in the Valley for the distant future, with him signing a record-breaking two-year, $145 million contract extension, first reported by ESPN’s Shams Charania. Booker was entering the second year of his four-year, $220 million contract and already signing another contract with the team. The four-time All-Star will remain in Phoenix till the end of the 2029-2030 season, where he’ll be finishing up his 14th season.
Suns owner Mat Ishbia met with Booker in Las Vegas on Wednesday night to finalize the contract. The deal is the highest annual contract extension in NBA history and brings the total contract to five years and $316 million total.

Booker’s commits to the Suns long term:
The 28-year-old is coming off his worse scoring season since the 2020-2021 season, which for his standards is still elite. This past season, Booker averaged 25.6 points, 7.1 assists and 4.1 rebounds on 58.9 true shooting percentage. Despite the team’s struggle, Booker was top 10 in scoring and assists for the first time in his career.

Phoenix missed the playoffs for the first time in four years this past season, after an embarrassing 36-46 record. The talents of Booker and 15-time All-Star Kevin Durant wasn’t enough to save a roster lacking connectivity. The 10-year Suns guard has been through some dreadful seasons with the franchise, but none of which were likely as disappointing as last year’s installment.

However, much like his idol Kobe Bryant, Booker is loyal to the team that drafted him all the way back in 2015. Booker will lead this new version of the roster comprised of young talent like Khaman Maluach, Rasheer Fleming, Ryan Dunn, Jalen Green and Mark Williams, while being surrounded by veteran players like Dillon Brooks, Grayson Allen and Royce O’Neale.
The Bradley Beal saga with Phoenix is expected to be over in the coming days. Regardless, Booker’s commitment to resurrecting the Suns back into contention has been strengthen with the extension. The Western Conference is stacked with plenty of team striving for a top-6 seed to avoid the Play-In. Booker is ready to fight for the fans in the Valley to get back to relevance.
