PHOENIX — Phoenix Mercury’s Alyssa Thomas spoke to the media after Sunday’s win against the Washington Mystics to credit the team for not giving up despite offensive struggles.

The Mercury’s offense was quieter than usual against the Mystics. Phoenix shot for 22.8% in the first quarter and improved to 50% in the second. Thomas admits that some of the shots missed should have been made, but applauds her teammates for not letting that tear their focus.
“Credit to this team to continue to fight and ride out this win,” she said.

Washington cut a 13-point deficit in the third and would take a 53-50 lead in the fourth with 5:48 remaining. Phoenix fought in the final moments and led the rest of the game off a Monique Akoa-Makani go-ahead three-pointer.
Thomas said that the only thing the Mercury could control was their energy and effort to keep the game from getting out of hand.
“We dug in and trusted each other,” Thomas said. “We just had a hard win.”
