Cardinals legend Larry Fitzgerald high on Marvin Harrison Jr.’s future

GLENDALE – A future Arizona Cardinals great got some encouraging words from a franchise legend this past weekend. At Kyler Murray’s first annual charity softball game, future Hall of Famer Larry Fitzgerald took part to show support for his former teammate and the Valley.

Fitzgerald spoke with The Arizona Republic’s Theo Mackie, and when asked about second-year Cardinals wide receiver Marvin Harrison Jr., he had nothing but high praise for his future.

Fitzgerald on Harrison’s future with Cardinals:

“I saw a guy who made a lot of plays. He did a really good job. When the ball came to him, he made his plays. He’s only gonna continue to get better so I’m excited to see his Year 2.

“If he ever needs anything, I told him, I’m always available for him any way I can be helpful. But fortunately he has a father who was a heck of a lot better than I was so he can tap into him whenever he likes.”

Fitzgerald is a rolodex of information that any young wide receiver in the league would love to pick his brain. The 11-time Pro-Bowler spent 17 years in the Valley and understands what its like to be a young wide receiver with this franchise. In his rookie season, Fitzgerald caught 58 catches for 780 receiving yards and eight touchdowns.

20 years later Harrison would have an eerily similar rookie season, with 62 catches for 885 receiving yards and eight touchdowns. The young Cardinals receiver’s first year in the league is being labeled as a disappointed but the numbers look stellar compared to a franchise legend.

Since his retirement in 2020, Fitzgerald has been a reliable support system for the team to use throughout the years. Fitzgerald’s unwavering loyalty to the franchise is honorable, especially with the hope of Harrison following suit with his Hall of Fame career.

Head coach Jonathan Gannon has raved about the work he has seen from Harrison this offseason and expects him to make a massive leap in his sophomore season. Fitzgerald in his sophomore season led the league with 103 catches that equated for 1,409 receiving yards. If Harrison continues on Fitzgerald’s career trajectory, fans could be in for a big surprise from the young Cardinals receiver.
