PHOENIX – The Kevin Durant sweepstakes are the Phoenix Suns’ life raft to survive the current dry spell. The franchise is coming off an embarrassing 36-46 season, where it missed the Play-In despite having the most expensive roster in the association. Drama, age, and injury all led to a disappointing year, which led to this summer.

New general manager Brian Gregory is expected to trade Durant this offseason to try and recoup the assets lost trading for the 15-time All-Star in the first place. Despite the reports and the logic of trading Durant, DraftKings Sportsbook has Phoenix as the favorite to retain the 36-year-old.

The Suns have the best odds to keep Durant next season, but the Houston Rockets are slightly behind at +250. Houston has shown interest since last Summer, when it traded for Phoenix’s future first-round picks from the Brooklyn Nets. The deal seemed to indicate that the organization will try to push for a Durant deal in the future.

After losing in the first round as the 2nd seed, the Rockets will be motivated to rinse the sour taste of the playoff series loss by trying to get experienced, winning players for next year. Houston’s head coach Ime Udoka has a history with Durant, coaching the MVP in Brooklyn and Team USA for the Olympics.

The Rockets would also have one of the best packages for the Suns, with the picks and young players attached. Gregory could recoup the franchise’s picks and a variety of young and veteran players to pair with superstar guard Devin Booker next season.
