ASU lands former 4-Star transfer from CSUN Marcus Adams Jr.

TEMPE— Arizona State men’s basketball has added a key piece to its roster, picking up Cal State Northridge transfer Marcus Adams Jr., per On3. The 6-foot-8, 220-pound sophomore forward brings scoring ability and much-needed depth to the Sun Devils’ front court.

Adams, a four-star transfer prospect, averaged 16.1 points and 4.9 rebounds per game this season while shooting an impressive 39.5% from three-point range. His ability to stretch the floor and contribute offensively should provide ASU with a valuable scoring option next season.

The Sun Devils have been searching for reinforcements after losing four players to the transfer portal, including two forwards—sophomore Brandon Gardner (6-foot-8) and senior BJ Freeman (6-foot-6). While ASU previously secured a commitment from three-star high school forward Kash Polk, Adams’ experience and scoring ability offer an immediate impact.

Adams’ path to ASU has been unconventional, with five schools in 21 months. He initially committed to Kansas in March 2023, enrolled in June, and transferred to Gonzaga by July. A month later, he decommitted from Gonzaga and instead transferred to BYU in September. After playing just one game for BYU, he entered the portal in March 2024, landing at CSUN in May. Following a strong season with the Matadors, he once again entered the transfer portal this March before committing to ASU.

Despite his winding college journey, Adams has proven to be a high-level talent. His ability to score at all three levels and stretch the defense could be exactly what the Sun Devils need as they aim to bounce back next season.
