GLENDALE — The reigning IFL National champs made a statement in their first game of the season, defeating the Tucson Sugar Skulls on Sunday evening 28-56.

After defensive lineman James Nyamwaya blocked a Sugar Skull field goal attempt, the ball was turned over to the Rattlers. Taking advantage, they scored another six on a carry by running back Jamal Miles. The Rattlers would then score 21 more points in the second quarter, taking a dominant 13-35 lead at the half.

In the final seconds of the third quarter, a perfect one-handed catch by wide receiver Yo’Heinz Tyler from 37 yards kept the momentum on the Rattlers’ side. With two more touchdowns and a key interception by DB Rashie Hodge Jr. in the fourth quarter, the Rattlers dominated to victory.
