ASU lost their first game of the Sun Devil Classic against third ranked Florida 1-9, but bounced back to win three straight against California Baptist, Portland State and New Mexico State.

The Invitational field consists of ASU, GCU, Oregon State, Seattle, Utah State, UTEP, and Yale.

Of qualified batters with at least 2.5 plate appearances per game and 75% of games played, Kelsey Hall is leading in batting average at .462, OPS at 1.346, home runs with 4, and RBIs with 14.

Ashleigh Mejia blasted an impressive three run homer in the first inning to get the scoring started early in the team’s games against New Mexico State.

Tiare Ho-Ching, Nehanda Lewis, Samantha Swan and Grace Molitor boast batting averages above .300, with all but Swan also reaching a slugging percentage above .400 as well.

The duo of Kenzie Brown and Meika Lauppe lead the team in innings pitched, logging 28.1 and 39 innings respectively. Brown also sits with a 1.24 ERA, while Lauppe owns a 1.44 ERA.

“I thought Kenzie and Meika did a beautiful job today. When their rhythm would get off a pitch or two, or we give up a hit, they would just dial it right back in and went right at the next batter. Same with the defense. They just kind of scrapped it, went to the next play, and kept their cool. So if we can find some element of consistency with how young we are, we’re going to be a tough ball club,” said head coach Megan Bartlett according to the Sun Devils athletics website.

The ASU/GCU Invitational is split between both school’s campuses, with ASU’s first game at Alberta B. Farrington Stadium against Oregon State on Thursday, Feb. 27.
