ASU kicks leading scorer BJ Freeman out of the program

Syndication: Arizona Republic

PHOENIX –Arizona State men’s basketball announced yesterday that senior guard BJ Freeman has been dismissed from the team because of multiple broken codes of conduct. Freeman had already been suspended for one game in February in a game against Oklahoma State, and now another incident has led to him leaving the program.

Head coach Bobby Hurley spoke postgame after the win over Kansas State about the decision to dismiss Freeman from the team.

Freeman’s departure comes nine days after a rallying cry to Sun Devils fans where he said:

“We still here. Don’t give up on us yet. We’ve still got six games, then we’ve got a tournament. You guys gonna get a different change of basketball starting Tuesday.”

The quote becomes a parting message from Freeman, as he becomes the third ASU player to be dismissed from the year in the past three years, including Jose Perez and Marcus Bagley.

ASU, in its first game without Freeman, broke its six-game losing streak and had its best defensive performance of the season. Regardless, the Sun Devils will struggle to find consistent offense without their leading scorer, Freeman. Hurley will rely on senior guards Alston Mason and Adam Miller to pick up the production with their guard play for ASU to finish the season strong.
