Burnes inked a six year, $210 million contract with the D-backs over the offseason after spending last season with the Baltimore Orioles. The four-time All-Star finished last year with a 2.92 ERA in 32 starts.

Diamondbacks manager Torey Lovullo noted that, just because Burnes will be first to take the mound this spring, doesn’t mean that Zac Gallen still isn’t in competition for the starting nod opening day, per MLB.com.

Burnes is scheduled to pitch just one inning against the Rockies, but the front office and fans alike are eager for the Burnes era to begin.
