Phoenix Suns coach Mike Budenholzer talks with the media after the Phoenix Suns (6-1) picked up their fifth-straight win with a 118-116 victory over the Philadelphia 76ers (1-5).
Thank you for reading this post, don't forget to subscribe! The Suns came back from down nine points with five minutes remaining to get the win, as Kevin Durant scored 15 of his season-high 35 points in the fourth quarter and hit two go-ahead baskets in the final minute of the game.
Here are some key quotes by Budenholzer from the press conference (via Suns):
- On Kevin Durant taking over in the late fourth quarter to win the game: “Tonight is an example of why such a great player makes tough shots. He can make something out of nothing and his length, he can just do so many things to put the ball in the basket. The last shot was great to get an offensive rebound, to get that extra possession with the matchup, they had their big on him away from the basket and he was able to drive him and finish, so Kevin (Durant) was great. I love that we were able to get an offensive rebound to create the extra possession. So, yeah, it was special from Kevin.”
- On recent games coming down to the last few possessions: “I thought the spacing tonight was good with the ball in Kevin’s (Durant) hands, so he could bring a few different
people up into it. Nurk (Jusuf Nurkic), gave us a lot tonight finishing, I thought Brad’s (Bradley Beal) defense on (Tyrese) Maxey was really good the whole night. Brad (Bradley Beal) offensively, I thought, gave us a lot tonight, so a lot of different guys, stepped up and played well for us.” - On going on a 14-3 run in the last five minutes of the game: “I think we made some stops. I think the guys found a way to get stops and obviously, then it felt like Kevin with the ball made good things happen. I think it always starts with our defense. Felt like we held them to multiple possessions and within the last five minutes without a bucket and we were able to clean up the glass and get the win.”
