With third-string quarterback Desmond Ridder being signed off the Arizona Cardinals’ practice squad by the Las Vegas Raiders earlier this week, the Cardinals have responded by signing quarterback Anthony Brown.

Brown joins his fourth NFL team since entering the league. He originally signed with the Baltimore Ravens as an undrafted free agent ahead of the 2022-2023 season. Brown made his NFL debut in Week 12 against the Pittsburgh Steelers, entering the game in the third quarter and throwing for 16 yards on five attempts. His first NFL start came in the Ravens’ regular-season finale, but it proved to be a difficult outing for the rookie. He completed just 19 of 44 passes, threw two interceptions, and failed to record a touchdown. Baltimore released him in September 2023.

In January 2024, Brown signed with the Las Vegas Raiders but was waived before the season began. He later joined the Buffalo Bills on August 20th, only to be released after five days. Now with the Cardinals, Brown will step into the role of third-string quarterback behind starter Kyler Murray and backup Clayton Tune, Arizona’s fifth-round pick in the 2023 draft.

In addition to the Brown signing, the Cardinals activated rookie offensive lineman Christian Jones from injured reserve. Jones, who had been sidelined with an ankle injury since before the season, played a key role in the Texas Longhorns’ dominant 2022 offensive line that helped Bijan Robinson rush for 1,580 yards and 18 touchdowns.

Head coach Jonathan Gannon expressed optimism about Jones’ return, stating, “He’s getting back in the groove of moving people in the run game and keeping the quarterback upright.”
