It’s been a season of milestones for Diamondbacks outfielder Randal Grichuk. In the first inning against the Rangers, Grichuk turned around a 90 MPH fastball from Cody Bradford and launched it halfway up the left field bleachers. It marked the 200th home run of his career.

The home run is the second major milestone in Grichuk’s career. Earlier in the year, he logged 10 years of service time in the major leagues while celebrating his 33rd birthday.

Grichuk has been an excellent bench piece for the Diamondbacks, splitting his time between the outfield and the designated hitter. Following his home run, he’s slashing .279/.337/.485 with nine home runs. He was signed to be a force against left-handed pitching and has done that, hitting .303 with five home runs, 28 RBI, 16 extra-base hits, and a .855 OPS in 171 plate appearances.

The decision to add Grichuk to the lineup was shrewd on the Diamondbacks’ part, as his presence has drastically improved their lineup against left-handed pitching. Collectively, Arizona is slashing .279/.341/.436 and has the fifth-best wRC+ at 115. It’s a big reason why they’re hard-charging towards a Wild Card spot with less than three weeks left in the season.
