A Phoenix native who attended Corona del Sol High School in Tempe, Pearsall was reportedly walking alone when a 17-year-old suspect attempted to rob him at gunpoint. According to San Francisco Police Chief Bill Scott, a struggle ensued between Pearsall and the suspect, leading to gunfire. Both Pearsall and the suspect were injured in the altercation.

Pearsall was quickly transported to San Francisco General Hospital, where he is currently in stable condition. The suspect, a resident of Tracy, California, was also taken to the hospital for treatment and is in police custody. The San Francisco District Attorney’s office is expected to make a decision on charges by Tuesday or Wednesday.

San Francisco Police confirmed that the suspect acted alone and there is no indication that Pearsall was targeted because of his status as an NFL player. A firearm was recovered at the scene.

The news of the shooting has sent shockwaves through the football community, especially in Arizona, where Pearsall made a name for himself during his high school and college years. Pearsall’s mother, Erin Pearsall, took to social media to thank God for protecting her son, expressing immense relief that the bullet missed his vital organs.

Pearsall was selected 31st overall by the 49ers in the 1st round of the 2024 NFL Draft. On June 21st, he signed a four-year rookie deal with the team.
