It has been over 20 years since the Arizona Diamondbacks made the postseason in consecutive seasons, last achieving this feat in 2001 and 2002. However, with a little over a month remaining in the 2024 season, the Diamondbacks are on the verge of ending this drought.

According to FanGraphs, the Diamondbacks’ odds of making the postseason stand at 88.9%. At the beginning of the year, their chances were just above 50%. Exactly one month ago, when the D-backs’ record was 51-50, their postseason odds were at 38.6%. A month before that, their chances were near a season-low of 32%.

Over the past month, Arizona has posted an impressive 22-6 record, the second-best in baseball during this span, trailing only their NL West rivals, the San Diego Padres.

As for the D-backs’ World Series odds according to FanGraphs, only four teams in the National League have a better chance of winning the Fall Classic: the Phillies, Dodgers, Braves, and Padres.

FanGraphs projects the D-backs to finish the season with an 89-73 record, which would mean going 17-17 over their remaining games. This conservative estimate is due to Arizona facing one of the toughest remaining schedules in baseball, with a .512 strength of schedule.

Nonetheless, if the Diamondbacks were to finish the season playing .500 ball, they would secure their best record since 2017 and likely clinch the second or third Wild Card spot in the National League.

After sweeping the Marlins, highlighted by a 10-run outburst in the finale, the Diamondbacks now face a gauntlet of postseason contenders. They’ll start on the road against the Red Sox, followed by a critical homestand against the Mets and Dodgers, then head out for series against the Giants and Astros, and conclude with a homestand against the 2023 World Series champion Texas Rangers and the NL Central-leading Milwaukee Brewers
