Marte reached base on a rocket to second baseman Marcus Semien. Initially ruled an error, the play was later overturned to a hit. Marte was then driven in by a three-run homer off the bat of Shohei Ohtani.

After this towering blast, the American League struck back with three runs of their own in the 3rd. Juan Soto drove in a pair with a line drive up the middle off Giants’ Logan Webb.

In the 5th inning, subbing in for Aaron Judge, Jarren Duran blasted a two-run homer to give the American League a 5-3 lead. Duran was ultimately named All-Star MVP. It was his first career All-Star game.

Although the National League outhit the American League 10-5, they struggled to capitalize on opportunities, going 1-4 with runners in scoring position. Their lone hit with runners in scoring position was Ohtani’s blast.

Kirby Yates and Emmanuel Clase struck out four batters in the final two innings
