After getting back to .500 for the first time since early April, Ryne Nelson commented, “It’s foot on the gas time.” The Diamondbacks embodied this mindset with an 12-1 win over the Toronto Blue Jays.

The Diamondbacks, now with 10 wins in their last 14 games, are on a four-game winning streak, their longest since early June.

Yilber Diaz, who pitched six innings and allowed one earned run in his Major League debut against the Braves earlier this week, delivered a nearly identical performance, once again holding the opposing offense to one run over six innings.

Arizona’s offense set the tone early with a one-out double by Joc Pederson down the left field line, giving the Diamondbacks a 1-0 lead in the 1st inning.

After Toronto evened the score in the 2nd, it was all Diamondbacks. They added two runs in the bottom of the inning, two more in the 4th, three in the 7th, and four in the 8th.

Corbin Carroll, hitting his 4th home run of the season, provided the dagger with a three-run shot to extend the Diamondbacks’ lead to 8-1. Remarkably, it was Carroll’s 1st home run at Chase Field since September 20th of last season. It was also Carroll’s 1st 4+-RBI game at Chase Field in his career.

But he was not done yet. In the 8th, after Eugenio Suarez stayed hot with a two-run bomb, marking his 4th home run over the last seven games, Carroll blasted a two-run shot. This made it his first multi-homer game since June 2023 and breaking a career-high with six RBIs.

Not only was this a record for Carroll, but it was also a franchise record for most RBIs out of the leadoff spot in Diamondbacks’ history.

Behind Diaz, Arizona’s bullpen held strong. Bryce Jarvis tossed a scoreless 7th, Miguel Castro worked through some traffic to toss a scoreless 8th, and Thyago Vieiera finished things up with a quick 9th inning.

The beginning of the Diamondbacks’ lineup—Corbin Carroll, Ketel Marte, Joc Pederson, and Christian Walker—led the offense, all recording multi-hit nights. Jose Herrera also had a big night in the 9th spot, picking up three hits for the first time this season. The D-backs struck out just twice, putting constant pressure on the Blue Jays’ defense. Two of these strikeouts came in the four-run 8th inning.

Unfortunately for Arizona, the Cardinals, Padres, and Mets—three teams also in the National League Wild Card race—picked up wins.

Looking to close out before the All-Star break on a five-game winning streak, the Diamondbacks will be back in action with their ace Zac Gallen on the mound for the series finale against Toronto. First pitch is scheduled for 1:10 PM
