Due to the Olympic break, the WNBA schedule has become condensed into two halves, creating rigorous schedules for teams across the league. The Phoenix Mercury went through the grind of rapidly traveling and preparing for games this season, and they even had a stretch less than a month ago where they played five games in eight days.
Thank you for reading this post, don't forget to subscribe!Four of those games were on the road (Connecticut, New York, Minnesota, Seattle), and one was at home. The Mercury was forced to play on both sides of the country, multiple times, in just eight days.
As the month of June comes to an end, Phoenix is now being rewarded for such a grueling schedule. The team had three days of rest before its game against Minnesota on Saturday, and now, look forward to five days off ahead of the Los Angeles Sparks.

“Man, thank you Jesus for this break,” said Mercury point guard Natasha Cloud. “I think that we have had one of the hardest schedules across the WNBA. The challenge of our schedule coming into today, we’ve been challenged by every top team in this league. We’re going to be happy for these days off, we’ve been playing what feels like every other day for the last two months… We love each other, but it’s always good to have healthy space to reset, do what you want to do, and just get your body back too more than anything… You’re seeing injuries in the league go up, it’s because of the schedule. These two days are going to be really huge for us of just resetting our bodies and minds and everything in between.”
