According to HoopsHype’s Michael Scotto on X (formerly Twitter), “The Phoenix Suns are adding Chaisson Allen as an assistant coach to Mike Budenholzer’s staff, league sources told @hoopshype. Allen was previously the head coach of the Wisconsin Herd, the G League affiliate for the Milwaukee Bucks.”

Allen has been the head coach of the Herd since 2021, while Budenholzer was the Bucks head coach from 2018-23. The Herd finished 17-17 under Allen last season. In Allen’s three seasons as head coach, the Herd had a combined record of 36-62.

This will be Allen’s first job as an assistant coach for an NBA team. However, Allen was an assistant for the Herd (2019-20) prior to being named head coach, as well as the two other G-League teams: the Capital City Go-Go (2018-19) and Long Island Nets (2021). His other coaching experience comes in the college ranks, as he held a position in player development at the University of Miami from 2016-18.

According to his LinkedIn, Allen is in the Northeastern University Basketball Hall of Fame after spending four years there from 2007-11 and ranking in the top 10 in scoring, assists, and steals in school history. He then went on to play in the EuroBasket leagues from 2011-16.

Deseret News reported yesterday that the Suns were adding Utah Jazz assistant coach Chad Forcier, who became the third reported add for the staff this week. David Fizdale is reportedly returning to Phoenix as an assistant per ESPN, while the Suns also reportedly landed one of Budenholzer’s previous assistants, Vince Legarza, four days ago, according to AZ Central’s Duane Rankin.

The Suns officially hired Budenholzer to replace fired coach Frank Vogel on May 11, two weeks after the team was swept in the first round by the Minnesota Timberwolves.
