Kevin Durant Shows His Loyalty to Nike

Phoenix Suns’ forward Kevin Durant has been a Nike athlete since 2007. Durant and Nike have both benefited greatly from the partnership. Which resulted in Durant becoming the third player to sign a lifetime deal with Nike. Durant joined Michael Jordan and LeBron James as lifers with Nike.

This was announced in April on this year. So, of course Durant is loyal to Nike as he should be. Minnesota Timberwolves’ guard Anthony Edwards tried to test that loyalty.

Edwards is with Adidas a rival sports apparel company to Nike. He has recently released his first signature shoe the AE1. Edwards was asked, “Who in the league would you want to see wear your shoes?” Edwards answered by saying, “KD (Kevin Durant) and he with Nike, I want to see him wear them.”

The interviewer responded, “Maybe, in practice or something?” and Edwards said, “Nah, in a game.”

Durant responded on X/Twitter by essentially saying that he would never wear those shoes but in a creative way with adult words. Now Edwards has shown lots of personality during his time in the league and likes to have fun. The former number one overall pick has already poked fun at the other signature shoes in the league.

This may be the start of something that can lead to more competition among Nike, Adidas, Reebok, New Balance, Puma, Reebok, Under Armour and others. Edwards may start a war that would benefit all sneaker heads and provide entertainment outside both on and off the court.
