In Paul’s first game back since being traded away from Phoenix, he was greeted warmly with a tribute video.

However, it all turned bad very quick. Paul was ejected by Scott Foster, who he is known to have a history with for a while, in the second quarter, changing the trajectory of the whole game. Paul is 3-17 all-time in the playoffs when Foster is officiating.

Paul reacted to the ejection postgame.

“It’s personal,” Paul said. “I’m okay with a ref saying whatever, just don’t use a tech to get your point across. You know what I mean?”

Why is it personal for Paul? He detailed a past event with Foster that involved his son.

“I had a meeting with my dad, Doc Rivers, Bob Lanning and (Scott Foster) … (when I was) with the Clippers (about it),” Paul said.

Paul explained why he got so upset and picked up a second technical.

“We have these conversations all the time,” Paul said in regards to officiating. “There’s some officials that’ll talk back to you and stuff like that, which sometimes it’s healthy. It’s an intense game, you go back and forth. But, it’s just like you get to give a tech to get your point across. So at that point though, when something’s said I ain’t care no more. It is what it is. I’m sure I’ll see him in a Game 7 soon. That’s how it always works out.”
