Arizona State’s Dashaun Mallory and Cam Skattebo Bring In Weekly Awards

Arizona State had a fantastic defensive and offensive game against UCLA. They held UCLA to almost no passing yards while using crazy formations to get down the field. Arizona State’s defense caused four fourth-down stops and two forced fumbles.

One of the big reasons was the plays of Dashaun Mallory and Cam Skattebo, who each won individual awards for their performance.

Cam Skattebo

Skattebo was named to the Paul Hornung Weekly Honor Roll for the second time in three weeks. Mallory was named Pac-12 Defensive Lineman of the Week.

Skattebo only had 61 rushing yards and a touchdown on the ground. He also only had seven receiving yards, but his performance was special in his ability to throw the football. Arizona State’s Head Coach, Kenny Dillingham, worked his top three guys. Trenton Bourguet, Skattebo, and Jalin Conyers all took snaps at QB. This was to take the pressure off of Bourguet. Bourguet was injured the week before at Utah. Skattebo took the opportunity to make a huge 25-yard touchdown pass to Elijhah Badger for the game-sealing touchdown.

Dashaun Mallory

Mallory finished with a team-high nine tackles and half a sack. However, he was all over the field. Mallory was a player that Dillingham singled out in his postgame presser. Kenny Dillingham said this in response to a question about the fourth-quarter stops.

“It came down to two things. One was we had a good plan. And two was Dashaun Mallory.” Dillingham said, “That’s a kid who coming to Arizona State has changed his life. He didn’t play at Michigan State. They didn’t want him. He transferred to Arizona State. Nobody knew who he was. Now, he will probably get drafted. He came here as the most quiet kid you could ever imagine. He didn’t know who he was, and now he found himself. Coming here changed his life.”

These guys came out on fire at UCLA. They will have to do it again to stop one of the best teams in the country.
