Former Cardinals Quarterback, Joshua Dobbs Shines in First Start with the Vikings

Joshua Dobbs was the starting quarterback for the Arizona Cardinals for the first eight games of the season. The Cardinals went 1-7 in those games. He threw for 1569 yards, eight touchdowns and five interceptions. Dobbs had moments where he played well for Arizona but also had lots of down moments.

The return of the Cardinals’ franchise quarterback Kyler Murray was on the horizon. So, Arizona traded Joshua Dobbs to the Minnesota Vikings who were in need of a quarterback after Kirk Cousins tore his achilles. The Vikings received Joshua Dobbs and a seventh round pick in exchange for a sixth round pick.

Last week, Dobbs surprisingly got into the game against the Atlanta Falcons and led the Vikings to a comeback win.

Dobbs went 20/30 for 158 yards and two touchdowns. He also ran the ball seven carries for 66 yards and a touchdown as he led the Vikings comeback as they defeated the Falcons, 31-28. This was the feel good story of last week.

Yesterday Dobbs was going against a good New Orleans Saints defense. The Saints’ defense is ranked ninth in the NFL, giving up 19.8 points per game. Dobbs carved up New Orleans’ defense with his scrambling ability and accurate passes.

The Vikings defeated the Saints, 27-19, behind the great play of Dobbs. The former Tennessee Volunteer went 23/34 for 268 yards and a touchdown. He also ran for 44 yards and a touchdown. The Vikings are now 6-4 and their playoff hopes are alive and well.

Did the Cardinals get enough back for Joshua Dobbs? Only time will tell but right now it looks like a great move on the Vikings part to get Dobbs for the low price of a sixth round pick.
