Red Sox reportedly interested in Diamondbacks GM Mike Hazen

After a surprising move that saw Chaim Bloom being let go, the Boston Red Sox are currently on the hunt for a new general manager. Their top choice, according to ESPN’s Buster Olney, is none other than Mike Hazen, who currently holds the position of General Manager with the Arizona Diamondbacks.

Mike Hazen spent over a decade working his way through the Red Sox organization starting back in 2006. Then, in 2017, Hazen was hired on by the Diamondbacks as their new executive vice president and general manager.

During his tenure in Arizona, Hazen has played a significant part in shaping the talented and young roster that the Diamondbacks now boast.

This background makes him an ideal candidate for the Red Sox, especially since they are set to miss the playoffs for the second consecutive season.

However, the Diamondbacks are certainly not ready to let Hazen leave.

As reported by the Arizona Republic, Diamondbacks CEO Derrick Hall is now open to discussing the possibility of extending Hazen’s contract. “I can’t envision us going a different direction with what he’s built and his (front office) team, too,” Hall said. “I’m more than willing to have conversations with him at any point.”

It’s worth noting that, as long as Hazen remains under contract with the Diamondbacks, the Red Sox are not allowed to engage in direct discussions with him.

Stay tuned for further updates.
