In a thrilling Saturday night battle, the Arizona Diamondbacks shot themselves in the foot one too many times, leading to an 8-7 loss against the Reds in 11 innings.

While the Diamondbacks led throughout the majority of the game, at one point holding a 4-0 lead, it came down to a bullpen collapse that led the game into extras.

Zach Davies, in his first start in over a month, tossed five innings, allowing just one earned run on five hits.

However, despite exiting the ballgame with a three-run lead, Davies could not pick up his second win of the season.

With Paul Sewald closing it out in the ninth, the Diamondbacks newly acquired closer saw his eight-straight shutout inning streak quickly come to an end.

After walking the leadoff batter, which brought the tying run to the plate, the Reds found some offensive momentum with a couple of base knocks. They managed to tie the game, ultimately sending it into extra innings.

And from there, it was ugly on both sides.

Miguel Castro took the mound for Arizona in the top of the 10th, and as a result, the Reds kicked off extras with four straight hits, three of which were for extra bases.

Then, it was the Diamondbacks turn to answer, trailing by three.

Starting with a runner on second, Geraldo Perdomo got the party started with a base hit. This was followed by Corbin Carroll working a walk, which brought the winning run to the plate.

Although the Diamondbacks did not have any more hits in the 10th, it came down to a Reds’ infield blunder that allowed Arizona to tie the game up once again.

And it just so looked like the Diamondbacks would capitalize on this error by shutting the Reds down in the 11th.

However, with two strikes, two outs, and a runner on third, Nabil Crismatt balked, making it an 8-7 game.

The Diamondbacks then failed to score, resulting in their first loss since August 18th.

They will wrap up their four-game series against the Reds tomorrow at 1:10 PM.
