Shawn Marion and Amare Stoudemire will have their number 31 and 32 retired by the Phoenix Suns during the 2023-24 season. The Suns of the 2000’s were fast, fun, free flowing, and changed the NBA forever. That era of Suns basketball does not happen without Marion and Stoudemire.

Marion was the ninth overall pick by the Suns in the 1999 NBA draft. He played eight plus years in the valley. Marion was a four-time all-star and got selected to two All-NBA teams.

The former Running Rebel became known as “The Matrix” as he displayed great athleticism on both ends of the court. Marion was tasked with guarding the best players in the league while also averaging 18.4 points and 10 rebounds per game.

Amare Stoudemire was the ninth overall pick by Phoenix in the 2002 draft. He played eight seasons with the Suns. While he was here, Stoudemire was a five-time all-star and was selected to five All-NBA teams.

The former top ranked high school prospect lived up to the hype by providing consistent offense. Stoudemire averaged 21.4 points and 8.9 rebounds per game while shooting 54% from the field.

Stoudemire and Steve Nash had incredible chemistry in the pick and roll/ pick and pop. Their chemistry lead to many highlight dunks and mid-range jumpers. All of those buckets led to endless memories for Suns fans.

Amare Stoudemire and Shawn Marion are both very deserving of being celebrated by the fans and having their names added to the ring of honor.
