This Mercury season has taken yet another turn. This time point guard Skylar Diggins-Smith went on Twitter to discuss the organization not allowing her to use the practice facility while on Maternity Leave.
They’re not gonna acknowledge me this year and it’s ok guys. We’re not affiliated unless it’s the checks….per management. I can’t even use the practice facility or any resources. But I still love the X-Factor!! https://t.co/lcDb05fVVg

Sadly, no…or any massage therapists, chiropractor, chefs, strength and conditioning, nutritionist accessibility, etc… they EVERY other player has access to.
However I’m still down 48lbs on my own and I’m feeling great! ???????? https://t.co/rRkJpIxysF— Skylar Diggins-Smith (@SkyDigg4) August 3, 2023
The Mercury has the second-worst record in the WNBA at 6-19. With Britney Griner already out of the lineup dealing with mental health issues, head coach Vanessa Nygaard getting fired, and now this going on with Diggins-Smith, it’s safe to say that Mercury fans can’t wait for the season to end.
Smith tweeted a myriad of things revolving around the situation including this tweet below talking about trade.
It was all good when I was leaving for personal time!!
But when I’m leaving bc I was having complications and scared of risking my child….while leading the league in minutes (pregnant). Trade her?— Skylar Diggins-Smith (@SkyDigg4) August 3, 2023
Some of the Mercury fans tweeted about the news that broke today and a lot of the fans were showing support toward Diggins-Smith during this time.
The fact that Skylar Diggins-Smith, a 6X WNBA All-Star, had to workout in a local YMCA because she didn’t have access to her team’s training facilities.

Lets not get lost in the outrage that both @dearicamarie and @SkyDigg4 share experiences with discriminatory practices in the workplace. For the sake of sport and transparency, it’s important to address and talk about these things even if we don’t all come to same conclusions

The league shouldn’t punish pregnancy. I’m sorry this happened to you @SkyDigg4

Skylar Diggins-Smith doesn’t deserve that treatment. No WNBA/pregnant woman deserves that treatment. We gotta do better!

This season can’t end fast enough for the Phoenix Mercury who are looking to get a top pick in next years draft while also changing the team in a new direction.
