The Diamondbacks, who entered Atlanta riding a four-game losing streak, have now secured a series win against baseball’s best team with a 5-3 victory on Wednesday night.

Last night, it was the offense scoring 16 runs; tonight, it was Ryne Nelson and the Diamondbacks bullpen cruising through a high-powered Braves lineup.

With two starting pitchers on the injured list, leaving just three men in the rotation, there may not have been a better time for the rookie Ryne Nelson to throw one of the best games of his young career.

After allowing a solo home run to Marcell Ozuna in the second inning, Ryne Nelson retired 11 batters in a row. In total, the Braves amounted to just three hits off of Nelson, two of which were solo homers.

On the offensive side for Arizona, it was once again Christian Walker leading the charge. Following a multi-home run game on Tuesday, Walker went 2/3 plus two walks at the plate tonight while also scoring two runs.

Nick Ahmed also had a nice game, which was great to see considering the Diamondbacks’ veteran has seen his playing time almost completely vanish in July.

Adhmed took advantage of the opportunity and drove in two runs, including a two-out double in the sixth, to give the D-backs a 4-1 lead.

Remarkably, all five of the Diamondbacks runs were driven in with two outs.

Arizona will now quickly regroup and return to action tomorrow morning at 9:20 a.m. With a chance of a sweep on the line, it will be the leading CY Young candidate, Zac Gallen, taking on Spencer Strider, who is currently #2 in the CY Young odds.
