Former Idaho State kicker and punter, Ian Hershey, announced today on social media that he is transferring to Arizona State with three years of eligibility remaining.

In his freshman year last season, Hershey made 7-of-11 field goals for the Bengals, and he also punted the ball 56 times for a 38.7 yard average. He entered the portal in April.

Coming to ASU, Hershey reunites with former Idaho State head coach Charlie Ragle, who joined Kenny Dillingham’s staff this offseason as the assistant head coach and special teams coordinator.

Hershey chose to play in his home state of Idaho after playing his high school football at Highland High School in Pocatello, Idaho. In his three seasons on varsity, he made 122-of-128 PATs and 39-of-52 field goals with a long of 58 in his senior year, according to MaxPreps.

Arizona State’s other place kicker on its roster is Cal sixth-year transfer Dario Longhetto, who impressed in the spring with his kicking ability. Hershey will have to compete with Longhetto and may have to sit behind him for a year and redshirt before he gets the starting job. As for the punters, the Sun Devils have graduate Josh Carlson and junior Race Mahlum on the roster.
