This doesn’t necessarily come as a surprise as during the season, there have been a lot of reports going around that the Suns were going to be interested in a free-agent point guard this offseason.
There were even reports that Raptors free agent guard Fred VanVleet would be on the Suns’ radar this offseason to bring a change into the lineup.

There was also that time when the Suns were shopping Paul during the season in order to land now Mavericks free-agent point guard Kyrie Irving in hopes to form a big three along with players Devin Booker and Kevin Durant.

There have been tea leaves all over the place for the last few months of potential replacements for Paul. Given his age and contract situation, this news doesn’t surprise me and I wouldn’t be shocked if we see a new starting point guard for the start of next season for the Suns.
