We are only a few weeks away from MLB opening day. The excitement is building around the country for all of their favorite teams. Looking at the Arizona Diamondbacks first few series on their schedule and you can’t help but say, “Yikes!”.

Bad news is, the Diamondbacks begin the season jumping into the fire, going through a gauntlet of juggernauts. They open the season with a 4 game series against the Los Angeles Dodgers in LA.
Then after two games in San Diego against the Padres, they welcome the Dodgers to Phoenix for another 4 games. The Padres have, on paper, maybe the most powerful lineup on all of baseball.
While the Dodgers have been the ‘big brother’ of the NL West for the last 5 seasons. To open the season with their first 10 games against these two teams is a nightmare.
However on the other hand we will know 10 games in how this team sizes up against the best of the NL West. No matter what happens in these games, it will make the D-Backs better.
If they lose, they can learn from it and get better. If they win, the confidence will grow for a lot of these young players and propel them through the season. It is a blessing in disguise depending on how Torey Lovullo decides to attack it.
Once this team hits the middle of April, the schedule lightens up bit through June. A hot start seems inevitable for the Diamondbacks.
However the tone of this teams for the 2023 season will be set in the first 10 games against the NL West.
