Phoenix is currently 12-16 and is presently tied with the Atlanta Dream for the eighth spot. They would be out of the playoffs starting today because of their head-to-head record.

For Phoenix to make the playoffs, they must continue to ride the hot hand of Skylar Diggins-Smith; she scored 35 points on Friday night against Seattle. Diggins-Smith is averaging 20 points, 4.2 rebounds, and 5.5 assists per game this season.

Phoenix is playing small-ball style, and they shot many three-point shots. However, it will come down to how well the Mercury can defend and rebound. If the Mercury want to make the playoff, they will need to do better in those two departments.

The Mercury has two games this week, Thursday against the Los Angeles Sparks at home and Sunday in New York against the Liberty. Both the Sparks and Liberty are battling for playoff spots.
