Taurasi finished with 29 points on 10-17 shooting from the field and 5-9 from beyond the arc. When Taurasi plays like this, Phoenix could be hard to beat. Skylar Diggins-Smith added 24 points, five rebounds, and nine assists.

The Mercury starters scored all 80 points, Sophie Cunningham scored 13 points, while Shey Peddy added 12 points. Phoenix played an excellent defensive game, holding Washing to 33.8% shooting from the field and 29.6 shooting from the three-point line.

The Mystics only had two scorers in double figures, Elena Delle Donne with 19 points, while also grabbing 12 rebounds. Ariel Akins added 14 points. Washing scored nine points off the bench, with Myisha Hines-Allen scoring nine.

The Mercury now takes over as the eighth seed for the playoffs with the win over the Mystics and the Los Angeles Sparks loss. It is still a long way to go, but it was a big win for Mercury. Next for Phoenix is a Sunday showdown at home against the Atlanta Dream. The Dream is half of game ahead of the Mercury for the seventh seed.
