Diamondbacks second baseman Ketel Marte has advanced to Phase 2 of the Fan Vote. Between June 30 and July 3, fans can vote for Marte as the National League’s starting All-Star second baseman. To get there, head to dbacks.com/vote.
Thank you for reading this post, don't forget to subscribe!Fans will have the opportunity to drop at least one vote for Marte a day. He led all second baseman in the first phase of the voting, and will be taking on two-time batting champion Luis Arráez in a 1-on-1 vote. Voting totals are reset going into Phase 2.
Marte is having arguably the best season of his career. In 79 games, he’s batting .284 with 17 home runs, 48 RBI. His 144 OPS+ would be the second-highest mark of his career and ranks seventh amongst qualifying National League players.
Not only is he getting the job done with the bat, he’s also been one of the best defenders in baseball. His 1.3 defensive WAR on Baseball Reference leads all National League players, thanks to being +10 defensive runs saved.
If he maintains this pace, there’s a good chance he will not only take home both a Gold Glove and Silver Slugger Award, but could be in the mix for the National League’s Most Valuable Player Award. Marte ranks second in the league in WAR (4.2) behind the Dodgers’ Shohei Ohtani (4.7).
Should Marte win the second phase of the fan vote, it will be his second All-Star appearance and as many starts. He was the starting second baseman for the 2019 All-Star Game in Cleveland, going 1-for-2 with a double.
