PHOENIX — After missing the last two games against the Kansas City Royals with lower back issues, there’s been an update on Arizona Diamondbacks’ Corbin Carroll after he underwent imaging Thursday.

According to Arizona Sports John Gambadoro, nothing serious was shown in the All-Star’s MRI, and he will play against the Texas Rangers Friday night.
The development is especially important now, as Arizona begins its final homestand of the season with significant postseason implications on the line. The Diamondbacks and San Diego Padres have flip-flopped in the National League wild-card race over the past week, with the Padres entering the weekend with a half-game lead over Arizona.
With the D-Backs entering a crucial stretch of the season, Carroll’s status is particularly important. The All-Star hasn’t been playing his best baseball in recent months, with manager Torey Lovullo revealing that Carroll has been playing much of the season “banged up.” His 2026 numbers reflect that, with a .240 batting average and .800 OPS, both below his career averages.

More concerning, though, are Carroll’s numbers since the All-Star break for a player who, when he’s on an offensive tear, can be a dangerous addition to the lineup. Carroll is hitting .215 with 39 hits, six home runs, 16 RBIs and 31 runs scored — not what Arizona is accustomed to seeing from its dynamic outfielder.
This isn’t Carroll’s first injury this year. He broke his hamate bone ahead of spring training and had an elbow injury scare in midsummer that didn’t land him on the injured list. He did, however, have to wear a sleeve to help him continue playing.

The news provides a much-needed boost for the D-Backs. Even with Carroll’s slump at the plate, having him back in the lineup could be a major development for the team’s playoff push. His ability to change the game with his speed and contact continues to be valuable, and is exactly what Arizona needs during the most important stretch of the year.
