PHOENIX — Arizona Diamondbacks catcher Gabriel Moreno is as hot as the Phoenix heat at the plate over the last month and a half.

Moreno has been one of the club’s key offensive contributors, providing the kind of steady production that has helped keep the lineup moving through a crucial stretch before the All-Star break.
Since June 1, Moreno is batting .327 with 37 hits, three home runs, 13 RBIs and 12 runs scored in 32 games. While those numbers won’t dominate the headlines, they have provided exactly what Arizona needs as it looks to stack wins heading into the second half of the season. Moreno’s ability to consistently put the ball in play and reach base has helped keep innings alive and the offense moving.

The D-Backs’ offense is at its best when there’s traffic on the bases, and Moreno has become a reliable catalyst. Whether he’s extending innings with a line drive through “Gabi Lane,” putting together patient at-bats or delivering timely hits, his production has helped lengthen the lineup and create opportunities for those around him.
That consistency is especially valuable at the catcher position, where offensive production can be hard to find over the grind of a 162-game season. For Moreno, his offensive production, paired with his work behind the plate, hasn’t slowed him down. Instead, it has showcased that he can be among the National League’s best when he’s on a roll.

His recent play was on display against the Los Angeles Dodgers Friday night, when Moreno went 2-for-5 with two RBIs and a double while also making key challenged plays behind the plate that ultimately went Arizona’s way.
That recent stretch raises a fair question: Should Moreno have received stronger All-Star consideration?
The NL is stacked with star power, and fan voting, market size, established names, and performance influence All-Star selections. Those factors can leave players like Moreno somewhat overlooked, even when they’re producing at an All-Star level over an extended period.
