GLENDALE – The less that new Arizona Cardinals head coach Mike LaFleur talks about quarterback Kyler Murray, the more likely the two-time Pro Bowler is to be traded. During Tuesday’s introductory press conference, LaFleur stated he’s been in contact with the 28-year-old, but hasn’t made a decision on if he’ll be the starter in 2026. This plays into the fact the franchise is looking to trade Murray this offseason, with the New York Jets as one of the top teams interested.

Cimini on former Cardinals teammate warning Jets:
“Kyler Murray has attracted a lot of speculation with regard to the Jets. I’d be a little surprised if they went down that road. He has not been a durable player. He has not been a good player, quite frankly. I was talking to someone, one of his former teammates, the other day, and he basically warned off the Jets about [him]. I said, ‘You know the Jets might be going after Kyler in a month or two.’ And he goes, ‘No, no, no, the Jets don’t want to do that. You don’t want Kyler Murray as your quarterback.’ This is someone who played with Murray.”

The name of the teammate was not mentioned, but still a damning indictment for a player that has been team captain for the past six years. Murray has garnered a reputation of being injury-prone and not being passionate about the game. Famously had a clause in his contract about the amount of time he needed to watch film and not play Call of Duty.
However, in recent years, teammates have come out to support Murray about his hard work. After tearing his ACL in 2022 and returning less than a year later seemed to silenced the noise about his commitment to the game. The former first overall pick played in all 17 games in 2024, and seemingly, was back to his Pro Bowl status.

That was until a foot injury derailed last season for Murray, leading to quarterback controversy that saw him benched for Jacoby Brissett. Losing a job because of injury was a rough blow in the relationship between Murray and the franchise. The seven-year Cardinals QB seems ready to start a new chapter in his career, but if former teammates continue to tell reporters and teams to not trade for him, if could take a while to come to frution.
