GLENDALE – The Arizona Cardinals have plenty of positions that need upgrade with their third overall pick in the 2026 NFL draft. Experts could see the franchise go skill position, pass rusher, linebacker or even snag their next starting quarterback. However, a new consenous has been general manager Monti Ossenfort investing in the offensive line, which ESPN’s Mel Kiper Jr. predicted in his first mock draft.

Kiper has the Cardinals selecting Miami junior tackle Francious Mauigo third overall and adding some much needed beef to the offensive line.

Kiper on Cardinals taking Mauigoa:

“I still have Francis as a top-three pick thanks to his mauling play style, experience (41 career starts) and overall consistency as a blocker. Since Kelvin Beachum is a free agent, Mauigoa could slide in at right tackle and help spring James Conner and Trey Benson for big runs next season. The quarterback situation is still unsettled, but no matter who is under center, the protection has to be right.”

University of Miami’s Francis Mauigoa talks at Media Day during the College Football Playoff on Saturday, Jan. 17, 2026.

Arizona went from a top 10 rushing attack to a bottom 10 and top five in sacks allowed to bottom five. A massive reason, outside of the injuries, is the step back of the offensive line’s production. Outside of Paris Johnson Jr. and Hjalte Froholdt, there is no guarantee for who will starting in 2026.

Mauigoa is an All-American at 6’6, 315 pounds and is a dominating force. The 20-year-old led the Miami’s offensive line into one of the best units in the nation, allowing only 20 sacks in 16 games played as a team. His pass protection will be a massive help for the Cardinals in protecting whoever their next franchise quarterback will be next season.
